From the exhibit "The Story of Littleton in 125 Objects": The first newspaper published in Littleton, The Littleton Gazette, was printed using a Washington hand press that H.V. Bullock purchased for $900. Bullock set up shop in the basement of the Harwood Hotel (located on the southwest corner of Rapp Street and Bowles Avenue), and continued to own, manage, and edit the newspaper until he sold it in June 1889 to Myrtle Bell and Will H. Hodges. In 1891, the newspaper was sold again, this time to the Littleton Publishing Company, and the name was changed to the Littleton Independent as it remains today. |
