Description |
Decorative Mason's sword with 29 1/2" long blade, bearing frosted design and 7" long metal and wood hilt, forming a cross with blade; metal crosses inlaid in wooden grip of hilt, one of them inscribed "H. M. Teller"; a knight's head decorates the hilt; on opposite side from manufacturer's information is number "13" and a knight encircled by the words "W. Clauberg Solingen"; all metal scabbard had decorative symbols and scenes in relief on the right side; cloth and leather protective cover wtih ties. From the exhibit "The Story of Littleton in 125 Objects": Inscribed "H.M. Teller", this Mason's sword belonged to U.S. Senator Henry M. Teller. He was appointed Senator in 1876 when Colorado became a state. The sword was presented to him upon his elevation to 33rd Degree of Masons. His nephew, Willard Teller, was the Littleton Postmaster, and donated the sword to the Littleton Historical Society c.1966. |
