|Object Name||CLOCK, TALL CASE|
Howard regulator grandfather clock. Walnut case w/ 3 dial face. Mercury weight acts as counter weight. Case is elaborately carved; carved human head on top. Period: c. 1860
From the exhibit "The Story of Littleton in 125 Objects": This large Howard Regulator grandfather clock belonged to Vivian and Frank Hirth, who lived in a large house on South Windermere Street from 1927 to 1979. At the time the clock was donated, it could not be exhibited because the Museum's ceilings were too low. When the renovation of the Museum was completed in 2005, the increased ceiling height allowed many items such as this clock to finally be displayed.
